PR: #Detroit @DebraRhodes1 The Author's Brunch Oct 1st wsg NYT Bestseller LaJill Hunt @LLcoolJill #MotownWriters #michlit

For Immediate Release:
(Detroit)  -  The Second Annual ‘Author’s Brunch’ is set to take place Sunday, October 1, and Debra Rhodes and her team are working hard at making sure this one is more special than ever. This groundbreaking event is where bestselling and independent authors along with aspiring authors and book clubs, come to network, seek inspiration and feedback on their work. This is all possible through the newly established ‘Rhodes Literary Group’.
The ‘Author’s Brunch’ will run from 1 to 5 p.m., and will take place at the Motor City Hotel/Casino 2901 Grand River Ave. Detroit, MI.  It will be hosted by radio personality Cliff Russell of 910 AM Superstation.  The special guest is New York Times Best Selling Author, LaJill Hunt, author of the Drama Queen Series!  Hunt will read excerpts from her book and be interviewed by Cliff Russell.  The featured author is D.A. Rhodes, “WHY?”  Hunt and Rhodes will both participate in a Q&A panel afterwards.
Rhodes, now an award-winning Chicago-based author, stated that if you’re not motivated and prepared financially to promote your product, you have to find other ways to get your work noticed. “It’s difficult to walk through certain doors, sometimes almost impossible,” she said. “That’s why I created avenues for myself to promote my first book. I joined the Chicago Black Authors Network, then went to black-owned bookstores talking up my book to see if I could get it on their shelves. It’s tough.”
When Rhodes first started out as a writer, she found it difficult to get her name known and taken seriously in the industry. “As an independent author, I was always looking for new ways to promote my own work,” she said. “In the process I found there were other authors who needed a platform to promote their books as well. I figured why not have an event where we can all come together, share our work, and do our own networking.”
Rhodes knows that in her field, there really isn’t such a thing as an ‘overnight success.’ However, she aspires to provide passionate students with an opportunity that wasn’t available to her when she was younger. “This year at our Chicago Brunch, we presented three high school seniors who exemplified literary excellence with the Lillie Mae Harris Scholarship,” she added.
The students received the scholarships, complementary of Rhodes’ newly established nonprofit, the ‘Rhodes Literary Group’. These scholarships were new to this year’s ‘Author’s Brunch,’ and will be funded through fundraisers, sponsorship dollars, donations and a portion of all brunch ticket sales.
The ‘Rhodes Literary Group’ was created to inspire authors of all ages to pursue careers in creative writing or journalism. Her group allows students to hone their literary skills through two-hour workshops held at various locations throughout Chicagoland. The workshop being held at the ‘Author’s Brunch’, however, will focus more on current authors who are either struggling to start their books or finish their books.
Tickets for the ‘Author’s Brunch’ are available now at theauthorsbrunchdetroit2017.eventbrite.com and are expected to sell quickly.

Announcing the Missouri Review's 27th Annual Jeffrey E. Smith Editors' Prize via @missouri_review

Hello,

I'm writing to let you know about an award and publication opportunity that I hope you'll share with your writing community.

The Missouri Review's 27th Jeffrey E. Smith Editors' Prize in fiction, poetry, and nonfiction is now open for submissions. First-place winners in each category receive a prize of $5,000, plus a feature in our spring issue and paid travel to a gala reading and reception in Columbia, Missouri. Contest finalists will have their work considered for publication at our usual contributor rate of $40 per printed page.

This opportunity is open to both emerging and established writers—we are most of all concerned with finding strong work, which is why I particularly wanted to pass on the word to writers involved with your organization. I would very much appreciate it if you could let folks there know about our contest by posting the attached fliers somewhere where they'll get attention—such as your group's Facebook group or page—or by forwarding this information to any email lists or newsletters that might have an interest. All writers submitting to our contest receive a one-year digital subscription to the Missouri Review (normal price $24) and a paperback copy of the first title of our new imprint, Missouri Review Books, The Trail of the Demon by Jane Gillette (normal price $14.95).

We accept submissions online or by mail. The postmark deadline is October 2, and winners will be announced in January of 2018.

You can find more information about the contest through our website: http://www.missourireview.com.

Thanks very much for sharing this news with your community. We look forward to reading your writers' submissions!

Best regards,

Sherell Barbee

Greetings to you,

As you know, 2017 has a been a tremendous year in terms of new successes for our company. We became a Motor City Match awardee, we were selected to sit on the Building Better Men Advisory board, and late this year, we will finally publish the much-anticipated Expired Interpretations book! None of this would have been possible without your support and we thank you for your continued love & encouragement!

Our next goal is to open our first brick and mortar location in 2018.  I need your help to make this all possible.    Here's how you can help:

1. HELP SPREAD THE WORD! - Click below to view our official company video. Feel free to forward onto others who may be of interest and/or willing to support our efforts.

2. LIKE our Social Media Pages!-  Click to find us on FACEBOOKTWITTER, and INSTAGRAM

3. HOST a workshop, write a review or INVITE us to speak at your next event!  It's important for us to get to word out about our organization and what we are trying to accomplish.  Just a 15-minute opportunity to speak to adults or youth is all we need.

4. CONTRIBUTE to our upcoming crowdfunding campaign. The goals is to raise $10,000. Keep an eye out for another email soon related to this project.

Thank you so much for everything you do!
