Open Mic Poetry @ the Southfield Public Library
The Southfield Public Library's Poetry, Pages & Scribes program returns on April 5th at 6:30 p.m. in the Library's Auditorium. This Poetry Open Mic, hosted by Ber-Henda Williams, is a platform for poets, storytellers and musicians to share their works and the inspiration behind them in an intimate setting.
This program will be featuring the Street Poets Society aka Society X. Founded in 2005, The Street Poets Society (formerly known as The YouthVille Spoken Word Collective) is a group of young urban poets who strive to master their literary and spoken word proficiency. The young poets meet regularly to work on writing and performing. Members of the Street Poets Society have performed at Detroit's famous Music Hall Theatre, Orchestra Hall, the Scarab Club and the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center among other facilities throughout the metropolitan community. Their soon to be released first book titled Word is a compilation of over two hundred poems written by members. The Street Poets Society is an amazing group of talented young people that consistently work to positively represent themselves and their community through writing and the spoken word.
