Beyond The Closet Door

In this week's Spotlight we feature "Beyond The Closet Door" by Sharon Jenkins

Beyond the Closet Door... celebrates the demonstrated power of faith to heal adult child abuse victims. All sufferers of child abuse deal with emotional issues in the aftermath of their oppression, whether it is physical, sexual, verbal, or mental. This work of nonfiction furnishes the breath of life for hope found within the resurrected soul touched by Calvary's cost and empowers them to find purpose for their once shattered lives. She is available for talk radio and will do guest appearances on TV talk shows.

The author shares her very personal story of how she went from victim to victor over abuse. The book Beyond the Closet Door... is centered on her closet experience as toddler and how this experience of neglect has shaped every life experience she has had since then. She chronicles its effect from that point through her adulthood. This book is not about blame but perseverance. The silent scream of abuse continues to cry out in this nation and as an advocate for the abused she has made it her personal mission to help others child abuse adult victims "stop the hurting."

Known locally as The Master Communicator, the author is proficient in communicating the plight of the abused child in this revelatory book. Ms. Jenkins is a motivational speaker and workshop facilitator. She is also the co-author of another inspirational book, Songs of Three Sisters, and an avid contributor to local magazines and newspapers. She is current a writer for Beauty Come Forth E-Magazine.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, in 2003, approximately 906,000 children were victims and an estimated 1,500 children died of abuse or neglect. Boys and girls are equally likely to be abused or neglected. Approximately 80% of child abuse is perpetrated by a parent or caregiver. Children under the age of 4 account for 75% of all child abuse deaths. Child abuse is a serious national epidemic. These statistics indicate that you or someone you know has been a victim of child abuse at sometime during their lives. These children have often grown up with out the love and support that they have needed to accomplish the healing process after abuse. There is hope found in the pages of Beyond the Closet Door....

Sharon Jenkins
Life is a series of transitions. Its highways are constantly filled with people seeking their destinies and purposes in life. Everything Sharon Jenkins is today is because of her journey. Sharon's journey started over 40 years ago in Queens, New York. She has literally followed many highways in search of who God wants her to be. At the age of eight, she decided that self-expression was a critical part of who she is. She began to write. In her early 20's she was challenged to speak about the songs that flowed from her heart. She began to talk to crowds of people. In her forties, after years of preparation by life's rough places, Sharon finally felt she had something to shout about because of the victories in her life. She began to teach. She is a published author and she has written several Christian plays. She has also co-authored a book of inspirational psalms called the Songs of Three Sisters and produced and directed two plays she wrote called The Café of Hope and Benjamin Thomas Worthington, Resurrected. She performed as a dramatic reader in the poetry recital Sing Loudly Hallelujah written and directed by K. G. Bell.

She has written for Gospel Truth Magazine and Newspaper, Ladies First Magazine, The Minority Executive Report, Favor Magazine, Just Magazine, Houston Style and D-Mars Business Journal.

Sharon is a current resident of Houston, Texas. She is an educator and often refers to herself as a "teacher of teachers". Sharon's abilities to effectively communicate and adapt to a wide variety of audiences have been the keys to her success as a minister and speaker. She has had the privilege of sharing with businesses, social organizations, churches, and schools as well as at professional conferences. She is also a public speaking coach.
